Efforts are continuously underway to eradicate the illegal drug trade in the district and action will be taken within the ambit of the law against those who build illegal properties under the guise of drugs and the properties of drug smugglers will be attached with cases.

These words were expressed by Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mr. Varjit Walia while addressing a meeting held to review the campaign being run under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh”. SSP Rupnagar Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana was also present on this occasion.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varjit Walia directed the civil and police officers to take strict legal action against drug smugglers and send them behind bars so that they cannot trap our youth in the clutches of drugs.

Deputy Commissioner said that with the aim of taking action against drug traffickers at the ground level, committees have been formed in the villages and towns of the entire district, which are providing full support to the state government in its campaign against drugs by holding meetings at their level. For which, civil and police officers should ensure immediate action on the suggestions and complaints of these committees.

He directed the SDMs and DSPs at the sub-division level to work in coordination with each other and said that they should constantly check the hot-spot as well as sensitive areas. Along with this, he said that speedy legal action should be ensured against drug traffickers and all their property acquired through drug business should be confiscated.

Mr. Varjit Walia, while issuing instructions to the Civil Surgeon Rupnagar, said that the number of patients in the drug de-addiction centers and OPAT clinics of the district is increasing, for which the necessary medicines, testing kits and required staff should be available in the health institutions at all times.

SSP S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that to stop the supply of drugs, CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) is also being conducted in sensitive areas across the district. In the month of March, 15 commercial cases have been registered under NDPS besides other cases, after which the properties of the smugglers are being identified.

SSP told the officers that in addition to the properties of the persons under NDPS Act, the properties of their relatives, friends and other close acquaintances should also be investigated and if it is found that any property has been built under the guise of drugs, then the action of confiscation should be initiated.

He said that police department has started the ‘Sampark’ campaign for citizen participation and public participation programs have been organized under this initiative. He also shared the Punjab Government’s Safe Punjab Helpline number 9779-100-200 to provide information about drug smugglers and said that the identity of those who provide information about drug smugglers will be kept confidential.
