SSP Rupnagar Appeals to Residents to Stay Away from Rumors and Avoid Going Near Rivers, Canals, or Streams
Sri Chamkaur Sahib, September 2: In Rupnagar district, due to heavy water flow in the Sutlej river, embankments near villages like Daudpur and Phassa are in block Sri Chamkaur Sahib were damaged. To strengthen these embankments, the District Administration Rupnagar, Army teams, and local residents have been working tirelessly. Local MLA from Sri Chamkaur Sahib Dr. Charanjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Mr. Varjeet Walia, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, and other senior officials visited the sites to review the situation.
Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia stated that heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Bhakra Dam had led to water being released into the Sutlej, which caused damage to the embankments.
He added that since then, the District Administration along with local villagers has been working day and night to manage the situation. Now, an Army technical team has also arrived, and based on their engineering expertise, the embankments are being further reinforced.
Deputy Commissioner assured that there is no longer any danger as the water level at Bhakra Dam has receded and the situation in Rupnagar district is fully under control.
He urged people not to believe in rumors and to trust only the information and advisories issued by the District Administration. An official advisory has already been released, appealing to residents of houses located very close to rivers, canals, or streams to move to safer places. In case of any emergency, people can contact helpline numbers 01881-221157 or 112.
He assured that the District Administration is working day and night for the safety of every resident and appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration during this challenging time.
On this occasion, SSP Rupnagar Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana also appealed to residents to stay alert from rumors and to avoid going near rivers, canals, or streams.
Among others present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Chandarjyoti Singh, IAS Officer under Training Mr. Abhimanyu Malik, RTO Mr. Gurvinder Singh Johal, SDM Mr. Amrik Singh Sidhu, DSP Mr. Manjeet Singh Aulakh, Executive Engineer (Mining) Mr. Tushar Goel, and other senior officials.
