Deputy Commissioner and SSP met the people of Morinda under the “Project Sampark” program

Just as Punjabis have historically triumphed in great battles, the scourge of drugs will also soon be eradicated – Deputy Commissioner
Morinda, April 17: “Project Sampark” is not just an initiative to eliminate drugs, but a permanent battle against organized crime, street crime, and anti-social elements. The general public is being urged to join hands with the police to make this campaign successful.
These words were expressed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rupnagar, Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana, while addressing a program organized under the Project Sampark initiative at Riasat Palace, Morinda. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar, Mr. Varjit Walia, was also specially present.
Mr. Gulneet Singh Khurana stated that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is determined to completely eradicate drugs from the state. He mentioned that the campaign launched at the government level to eliminate drug abuse requires active support from the public
.
He said the main objective of Project Sampark is to strengthen cooperation and trust between the police and the public. Under this initiative, the district police have been continuously holding meetings with the public to help resolve local issues. He added that such meetings will continue to be held in the future as well.
SSP Khurana further shared that under the Punjab government’s campaign “War Against Drugs”, the Rupnagar district police have registered 69 cases so far and arrested around 105 drug peddlers. From them, the police have recovered:
• 17 kg 242 grams of poppy husk
• 2 kg 839 grams of poppy plants
• 10,740 tablets/capsules
• 251 intoxicating injections
• 126 grams and 213 milligrams of heroin
• 1 kg 765 grams and 203 milligrams of intoxicating powder
• Drug money amounting to Rs. 33,950
He appealed that if anyone has information about drug trafficking in their area, they should share it via the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline (WhatsApp Chatbot) at 97791-00200 or with the district police. He assured that the identity of the informants will be kept confidential.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varjeet Walia, addressing the gathering, said that the Punjab government is persistently working at the grassroots level to eliminate drugs and other criminal activities. Citing historical examples, he said that just as Punjabis have conquered major battlefields, they will also succeed in eradicating this drug menace.
He added that while the Punjab government is taking legal action against drug smugglers, the police and district administration are actively engaging with the community to seek their cooperation. The public is being appealed to support this anti-drug campaign and report both drug sellers and users to the authorities.
During the event, discussions were held with dignitaries, prominent persons, and school/college students about the harmful effects of drugs, gangster mafias, and related issues. Their suggestions were also taken. Additionally, the Kranti Kala Manch performed a play against drugs to raise awareness among the attendees.
On this occasion, SP Headquarters Mr. Arvind Meena, DSP Morinda Mr. Jatinderpal Singh, SHOs Mr. Shavinder Singh and Mr. Harjinder Singh, and other senior officials from the department were present, along with students from various schools and respected members from different villages.
