Female prisoners’s stall becomes center of attraction at Saras Mela
Rupnagar, October 28: In a bid to provide self-employment to the women inmates of District Jail Rupnagar, first of its kind stall was set up at Saras Mela which became center of attraction for the city residents.
With the joint efforts of Eco conserve foundation (ACCP COPS), chairman Dr. Deepak Singla, CEO Monica Chawla and Jail superintendent Lalit Kohli, this stall was set up to make women inmates independent. Women prisoners had made various types of designer candles which were appreciated by all visitors.
Giving information about this, social worker/ CEO Eco conserve foundation, Monika Chawla said that it has happened for the first time that women prisoners were trained to make special types of candles, after which the candles were exhibited in the fair.
She said that the our organization has run various programs to lift up the living standards of prisoners such as medical camps to set up libraries in prisons, skill development training to make women and men prisoners self-reliant, etc.
Monika Chawla further said that prisoners living in jails are also a part of our society and we all should make joint efforts to put their lifestyle back on the right track.
She thanked Deputy Commissioner Mohali Ms. Ashika Jain, ADGP Jail Arunpal Singh, for providing stalls and supporting the efforts of imprisoned women at Saras Mela.
